“We Rape People on Generics”

While writing the blog on the pricing of generic Risperdal at different pharmacies yesterday, I happened to remember a quote from a former co-worker of mine. Fresh out of college, I started my career as a pharmacist in a big box discount store. It was pure hell, and I hated every minute of it. In fact, it reminded me of the scene in Office Space where Peter says:

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.

But I’m getting a little ahead of myself. I can still vividly remember one of the first days I was working at this chain pharmacy. One of the other pharmacists was showing me the ropes . . . explaining how the work flow went, how to use the computer system, etc. He demonstrated how to give price quotes for prescriptions, which lead to a discussion on the company’s general philosophy on prescription pricing. When it came to generic drugs, these were his exact words:

“We rape people on generics.”

I remember being appalled with the glee he took in not only making this statement, but in also overcharging people for the drugs he sold through this pharmacy.

Of course, this company wasn’t doing anything illegal. It wasn’t stealing. It wasn’t lying. It was simply charging a huge price for its drugs, and most people would simply pay it . . . because they didn’t know any better.

Whatever the case, I knew in my heart that it was wrong to treat your patients, your customers, the members of your community like this. And in the months that followed, I also learned that a corporation that’s willing to abuse its customers in such a manner will be more than willing to mistreat their own employees as well.

But for me, it all worked out for the best. In fact, it was these early years working for this company that truly showed me what most people in this country go through in order to fill their prescriptions. This was simply the type of pharmacy experience that the majority of the nation now expects. And this is exactly why people need someone on their side when it comes to prescription costs.

People just assume that their doctor will write prescriptions for affordable drugs if they are available. Yet, most doctors don’t have a firm grasp on prescription pricing.

People also assume that their insurance companies will look out for them, and prevent them from paying too much for their medications. Yet, prescription insurance is run by crooked PBMs, who only care about making money for themselves off every prescription you fill.

And probably most of all, people TRUST their pharmacist and pharmacy not to rip them off. Yet that’s exactly what happens every day throughout the nation. When it comes to managing your prescription costs, you have to realize that nearly every other entity only has their own interests in mind. Everyone’s looking out for #1 . . . and you’re left to foot the bill.

But at MrMedSaver.com, we can help you change all that. We specialize in providing both you and your doctor with the information you need to save huge amounts on your prescriptions.
